West Bound Cardinal Train 51
Title:  West Bound Cardinal Train 51
Description:  I went to the Shenandoah Valley to visit my brother's family and to hopefully catch the Cardinal New York (50) and Chicago (51) bound trains. Generally, the trains usually meet and pass between Charlottesville and Staunton. There is a siding just east of Staunton at Brand's Flats and on top of the Blue Ridge Mountains at Afton where the meet usually occurs. My brother and I set off to catch Train 50 west of Staunton a Augusta Springs. We missed a turn and missed the train. We thought we could beat the train to Fishersville at the Buckingham Branch Transload facility there. We did catch site of it crossing Route 250 before passing through the facility, but that was our last glimpse of Train 50. We decided to stay put and wait on the Chicago bound Train 51, which we caught. We made two more stops at the NS Waynesboro Yard and Afton, but were not able to catch anymore live traffic. It was still a good day to be trackside!
